The farm consists of many different types of soils. The majority of the property, almost 280 acres, is Lenzburg silty clay loam. There are also more than 90 acres of Rozetta silt loam.
The Lenzburg series are found in surface-mined areas and are generally very deep and well-drained. They are found throughout IL, in mined areas and are the result of these activities, formed in materials that were excavated.
The Rozetta series are also very deep and well-drained. They are common in west-central and northwestern Illinois, as well as some areas in Wisconsin and eastern Iowa. The Rozetta series’ coverage is considerable, with about 800,000 acres of this soil type mapped to date.
